Up By Roots Workshop

This workshop is presented by James Urban, the author of
"Up By Roots".
The workshop will focus
on the principles of soil science, the relationship
among trees,
soil and water, urban soil analysis, soil
assessment in the field
and how to restore or improve
the soil.
This 1-day workshop
will be of interest to arborists, landscape architects,
urban foresters
and anyone who designs, specifies,
installs, or manages trees in the built environment.

workshop is for you.
Join us as we discuss common problems found on landscape
plants in our region.
We will review the diagnostic skills and the methods to
make the best possible assessment.
The focus will be on problems caused by diseases and the
environment.
Free for those who are eligible!
Must be employed within the industry with a company that
has less than 50 employees.
An employee requiring additional training for the
workplace.
An employee for the purposes of this training is someone
in particular who does not possess
high school, diploma or recognized certification.

Pruning Plants - The Basics

This one day workshop will review important concepts
such as good tree structure,
what to cut and where to cut, as well as pruning tools
and their maintenance.
The participants will realize the importance of this
practice to maintain healthy plants
and ensure a long life for the tree.
They will not be master pruners but they will know "good
pruning" from "bad pruning"
and will be able to answer simple questions from your
clients.

Management of landscape plant insects

This intensive one-day workshop is designed
for pesticide applicators who manage landscape pest
problems.
The presentation will cover the common insect pests
found in the region,
such as aphids, spider mites, caterpillars, borers and
others.
We will examine typical damage symptoms and discuss
management methods,
including the best use of current pesticides and
effective non-pesticide methods.
There will be a hands-on session to help improve
diagnostic skills
and a review of new pesticides now entering the market.
